Augusta Technical College Announces SkillsUSA Winners
Augusta, GA - August 2, 2022
SkillsUSA empowers its nearly 400,000 members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens through the development of personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics.
Their mission was on display at the 2022 SkillsUSA 's National Leadership and Skills Conference with more than 12,000 students, advisors and businesses and industry partners in attendance. Taking place June 20 -24, more than 6,600 outstanding SkillsUSA student competitors completed in 108 trade, technical and leadership fields. More than 1,300 business and industry volunteers served as judges as competitors works to prove their expertise in occupations such as cabinetmaking, cosmetology, mechatronics, entrepreneurship and more.
As competitions took place on the 1.5 million square feet of exhibit halls at Georgia World Congress Center, more than 200 exhibitors at the SkillsUSA TECHSPO were placed alongside the national career competitions, industry best practice workshops and leadership sessions. The Georgia Postsecondary team consistently places in the top 5 in the country for medal counts. This year was no different; we earned 50 National Medals; 23 Gold, 14 Silver and 13 Bronze medals.

- Dania Alawir and Christopher McIntosh, Design & Media Production Technology: Bronze medal in TV Production
- Andrea Wingo, Networking; and Andre Dessert, Cybersecurity: Bronze medal in Cybersecurity
- Emily Pinto; Design & Media Production Technology: Our 6th contestant placed 4th in Advertising Design
Our state officers, Emily Pinto and Justin Wade McClellan are already looking forward to their next adventure at the Washington Leadership Training Institute (WLTI) held in our nation's capitol in September. During WLTI the officers will meet with members of Congress and speak to them about the importance of Perkins Grant funding. They will also take part in the solemn laying of the wreath ceremony at Arlington Cemetery.
